Topline OS adds contactless trigger support for Internal Notifications. You can now send Email, SMS, or In-app notifications to users from workflows that start on non-contact events, for example opportunity, invoice, calendar, or custom object triggers.
Internal Notification actions now work on workflows that do not have a contact context
Supported notification types include Email, SMS, and In-app to users
Works with non-contact triggers such as opportunity updated, invoice created, calendar event changed, or custom object events
Merge fields limited to those available in the current trigger context to avoid errors
Keep notification subjects short and action-oriented, for example, Invoice paid or Stage changed
Include a direct link to the object when possible so teammates can click straight into the record
Add conditions so alerts fire only on meaningful changes and do not flood inboxes
Step 1
Open Workflows and create or open a workflow that starts from a non-contact trigger. Add an Internal Notification action and choose the type, for example Email, SMS, or In-app.
Step 2
Select recipients, for example assigned user or specific users, and compose the message. Use merge fields that exist in the trigger context. Save and test the workflow by triggering the event, then confirm the right users receive the alert.
Which triggers work without a contact
Examples include opportunity, invoice, calendar, and custom object triggers. Availability varies by account.
Can I still include contact info if available
Yes. If the trigger relates to a contact, include those merge fields. If not, stick to fields in the trigger context.
Which notification types are supported
Internal Notification supports Email, SMS, and In-app to users.
How do I prevent alert fatigue
Add conditions and thresholds so only important changes send alerts. Consider daily digests for lower-priority events.
Can I link directly to the record
Yes. Use object links where provided so recipients can open the opportunity, invoice, or calendar event.
